Code Ships First RoHS/WEEE Compliant Bar Code Readers
Launch of Completely 'Green' Product Line
Draper, UT - June 9, 2006 -
Code Corporation announced today its' first shipment of environmentally
friendly bar code readers to a European customer,
in preparation for the July 1, 2006 deadline for compliance
as established by the European Union (EU).
"These units will be beta-tested by our distributors and end-users and will be
followed shortly by volume shipments of our entire product line," said George Powell, president and CEO of Code Corporation. "Code is pleased to be among the leading companies world-wide to meet the very
aggressive schedule established by the EU for RoHS/WEEE compliance."
Code has initiated the manufacturing requirements for a
completely 'green' product line, indicating compliance for all its products
to RoHS/WEEE requirements. Code's products will bear labels emphasizing
compliance.

Unlike traditional manufacturing processes for virtually all existing electronic
devices, RoHS/WEEE compliant products can use only trace amounts of
heavy metals in fabrication (such as lead, cadmium and chromium). Implementing
compliance measures required the development of new soldering materials
and new processes for fabricating circuit boards. Eliminating electronic
devices as a source of heavy metal pollution reduces stress on the world's
landfill and recycling facilities.
Code Corporation manufactures portable imaging-based bar
code reading systems designed to interpret virtually all bar code symbols,
ranging from the familiar linear product codes on retail items, to complex
two-dimensional matrix codes which store several hundred bytes of data
in an area the size of a postage stamp.
"Nearly half of our products are sold in Europe," said
Powell. "Our products are used in a variety of industrial, governmental and medical applications."
